GHOST STORIES

"Zoom"

We feel so fortunate and blessed to have found WRNT and the opportunity to have Zoom as a part of our family.  We also have a weim named Zeke which we rescued first from a breeder that received him back after the owners asked her to take him back or they would euthanize him.  He was only 16 months old.  We felt the calling to rescue another weim after my husband, who was a video production student, produced a feature on shelter walkers.  Needless to say, it broke our hearts to see so many animals in need.  So our search to rescue another weim began and we were referred to WRNT.  We were introduced to Pam Kaplan and Zoom. It was a match made in heaven for the entire family. Not only did Zeke now have a buddy, we have gained one of the sweetest and most hilarious Weims I have ever met. As you can see, Zoom and Zeke have completely taken over our hearts! Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to save Zoom and all that you do for our blue and gray babies in need.

"Rookie & Ollie"  Rookie and Ollie woke up to a White Christmas yesterday and put a whole new meaning into the phrase "frolicking in the snow!" They were determined to become Weim-Pops before coming in out of the snow. The older members of the gang were smart enough to come in from the cold---but we had the lure Twiddle Dee and Twiddle Dum in from the snow with promises of a ride to Starbucks.  You will notice that the whole gang is loaded up for the sleigh ride to Starbucks but only the Twinkie Boys had their heads out the window catching a snowflake...or frostbite, whichever came first.  Hope your Holidays are Bright and full of Laughter.  We miss you all!

"Tristan"  I adopted my precious baby Tristan from WRNT 6 years ago. He is mine and my husband's baby and my son's best friend. As you can see from the pictures below he is spoiled rotten.  I just want to thank you again for the wonderful things you do for these precious animals. Plus let you know we have moved so that you can update your database.

Thank you, Rhonda Cassman

"Greyson/Gage"  We have been so busy here! Lauren turned 2 and she is sure acting like it! she still says Greyson is her best friend because he is so cute! Greyson had his first check-up with his new vet and he loved him. You know he is a man's man. He is now a whopping 91 lbs!  I am still in total shock!  I knew he was getting big, but dang!  We finally started our obedience classes at Pappy's.  Greyson was the biggest dog there!  There was a German Shepherd, a Mastiff and a Boxer but they were all around 6 months old so still just big babies.  We finally broke down and got him the choke type collar that looks like a torture device. The teacher told us that as big as he is and as much as he pulls that that is what he needs. I hate to use it but, it is working.  He is walking so much better and learning "leave it".  I can't wait to work with him and learn new stuff with him!  He did very well.  I attached a bunch of photos so you can see for yourself how big he is now!

"Clarise"   Hi Barbara,  Just wanted to give you an update on Clarise (now JoJo). We just love her! She's getting along better with the other kids (Jeter & Jazz). I often catch her and Jazz (our other female) playing around outside, in the living- room and on the bed, which she has made herself quite comfortable on as you can see by the picture of the 3 Amigos. We have another squirrel chaser now. She is also a great catcher, bringing us a tennis ball to throw her when she's in the mood. She has adapted well to our routine here. Like our male, she stands by the door when she wants to go outside and is getting accustomed to the crate with no problem. We love her calmness, something we haven't had since we got our first baby (Jeter) - even less with the second (Jazz). They just go, go, go, go. She makes an awesome BODY PILLOW!!! Anyway, I think she is very happy here, we certainly are with her. Thank you for the wonderful job you and all of the others in the Rescue do. God Bless all of you.

Love & Thanks, Mario, Brenda, Jeter, Jazz & JoJo Flores

"Bailey"  Bailey is fine.  This is a picture from today.  She is a true jewel.  Wise beyond her years.  She played ball with the boys a little before dinner tonight.  They gave her a stuffed animal that she already knows is hers.  She had a busy day after a bath and meeting her in-laws.  She is sleeping on my foot as I write this. Know that all is well.

Thank you, E J Rowell

"Donnelly" When my fiancé and I decided we wanted to welcome a dog into our home, it was important to him to have a pure bred animal. But it was important to me to adopt a dog that did not otherwise have a home. We soon found a wonderful compromise in the Weimaraner Rescue of North Texas. Jason (my fiancé) had long wanted a weim but knew as a single guy that he couldn’t give the energetic breed the time and space it needed to thrive. Now that we are settled in a house with a big back yard, we could open our home to a big, loveable animal.

Enter 2 year old Donnelly. He was picked up as a stray in Shreveport and transferred to Dallas via WRNT. That’s all we know about him. Or, at least, that’s all we KNEW about him when we got him. Now we know what an absolute joy he is, how expressive his face is, his moods, how much he loves his brown blanket, belly rubs, ice chips and…well…eating any paper we are careless enough to leave out. He enthusiastically takes on his duties as ‘official’ greeter at the local dog park and happily goes into his den (crate) at night. He is a quick learner; though his expressive face lets us know when he doesn’t feel like sitting (this resistance is quickly overcome by the appearance of treats).

Without the hard working volunteers of the WRNT, who knows where Donnelly would have ended up. He certainly wouldn’t have ended up with us and we honestly couldn’t imagine our lives without or big, goofy companion to complete our little pack.

"Shirley"  It was close to 8 years ago and I was in the local animal shelter in Bedford, looking for a new family member.  Near the front door, there was a small sheet with a photo of a Weimaraner and a notice about WRNT. I called, learned about one of the adoptees and went to see her that night. We had recently lost one of our two dogs to old age (a rescued Shepherd) and were looking for a playmate for our Rhodesian who missed his friend.

I was introduced to "Sherman", a female of indeterminate age (vet thought perhaps 5 or 6) who had already been given up twice by other families. She was one of the sweetest dogs I'd ever been around. She came home with us that evening. Of course, this was before I had heard the term "Velcro dog" too!  Clearly suffering from being locked up with some major separation anxiety, it only took a couple of months for (newly renamed) Shirley to teach us that she just wanted to be around us all the time. It didn't matter if it was day or night or if we were cooking dinner, taking a shower or watching TV. Once we figured that out, we all got along famously. She was one of the "one paw" communicators that eventually went to two paws and a final short but emphatic "woof" to be let outside.

Shirley is now around 13 (we think) and doesn't hear as well anymore. She doesn't climb on the furniture either due to arthritis, but has her soft beds around. She is still the 'boss' dog even though we adopted a male German Shepherd puppy who is now 6. If she manages to sneak upstairs because someone left the doggie gate open, she gets carried down in our arms. And even though she can't run like she did or play fetch anymore, she still likes brief walks, "yelling" at the two little terriers next door, stalking an occasional bird or squirrel and of course loves the famous Weim pastime of napping near her family.

"Happy Gilmore"  Gilmore is a very happy camper.  We took him out to the new house and let him run with Rusty Saturday after we got home and again on Sunday.  They ran like crazy dogs and would come back for some water and then go running again--chased some birds, peed on dozens of trees and acted like they were really doing something important running in the woods!  We also took all the dogs to the river.  He likes to wade like Rusty but didn't want to go any deeper.  They slept like babies both nights!!  He and Rusty had a couple of barks at each other when it was time to share me on the couch but I just sit in the middle now so I have one on each side.  Princess Katie has her own chair, of course.  Gilmore should get a prize for the "fastest eater in the world".  Wow!!  We did have a funny yesterday.  I had the refrigerator open and he grabbed a zip lock ! with lunchmeat and ran into the living room with it!!  He likes to follow Wes around and has already become his shadow.  Wes gives good belly rubs!!

He is a joy and we already love him to pieces.  We had to bathe all three dogs last night and he did pretty well although he's not one to jump in the shower without a little prodding/begging/biscuit!  He's a perfect fit for our family.

"Brody" We adopted Brody in November of 2004. He has been the best dog and is your typical Weim that loves to counter surf, chase the squirrels in the back yard and just being with his family.  I would like to thank everyone that volunteers to help these beautiful creatures. Y'all have also helped me teach my children to volunteer and help others that are in need.  They have learned that all animals deserved to be loved and taken care just like people do.

With love and many thanks,

Jamie, Rob, Andy, Zack, and Brody Viveros
