WRT typically adopts to people who live in Texas. If you live outside the state, search for a Weimaraner rescue group in your area — WRT does make exceptions for out-of-state adoptions if your local rescue can't meet your needs, but you must be willing to drive to Texas to meet your new dog (with your current dogs) before taking them home. • All dogs/cats in your home are spayed or neutered
• All dogs/cats in your home are on heartworm preventative
• All dogs/cats in your home sleep inside at night
• Your pet history demonstrates a lifetime commitment to your pets
• Renters must show written permission from their landlord to own a dog the size of a Weimaraner
• You must provide a satisfactory veterinary reference
• Strongly advised: fencing around your property, with all exterior gates locked, for maximum protection

Fees vary depending on the age and condition of the Weimaraner. We also offer discounts for senior adopters taking home a senior dog.

1. View the current list of available dogs
2. Click the "Adopt" button on your desired dog's profile
3. A rescue volunteer will contact you within a couple of days of receiving your application
   • They'll perform a vet check
   • They'll verify your homeownership or rental status
   • Renters: you'll be asked for your lease agreement or other proof that a dog the size of a Weimaraner is approved at your property
4. Once your application is processed, an adoption coordinator will help you find the right dog for your family
   • Sometimes it isn't the dog you identified on the site — they may no longer be available, or not the right fit
   • Trust your coordinator to guide you to the best fit for your family and any current pets
   • Your coordinator will set up an adoption interview — check your email regularly so you don't miss it
5. Pay the adoption fee on the day of the adoption. No exceptions.
   • Accepted: cash, check, or cash app (Venmo, PayPal, or Zelle)

Even if you know Weims, you may not be familiar with what it's like taking on a rescue with an unknown background. Some are untrained in the basics — think puppy brain, no matter their age. Some are afraid, and need an environment that shows them humans and other animals are safe. Some will resource guard, and some get extra clingy with their new humans, soil the house, or even "remodel" their kennels.
