How will I know about incoming dogs or those that need help?
Once you're a foster, you'll be added to a Facebook page for WRT fosters. All foster needs and transport pleas go out on that page first, before they hit the main social pages or the Google group.
Can I foster to adopt?
Yes, with certain requirements. You may not get to adopt a specific foster based on that dog's needs or temperament — our coordinators will work with you to find the best foster-to-adopt option for both the dog and your family.
How do I prepare for a foster?
It helps to know Weimaraners — but taking on a rescue from an unknown background is different. Some are untrained in the basics, others frightened and unsure. Some will resource guard, and some get extra clingy with their new humans, soil the house, or "remodel" their kennels. Create an atmosphere that shows them safety from humans and animals, and check out the blog for tips and tricks from trainers, fosters, and previous adopters. Heed their advice and you and your new furry friend will do great.

Volunteering for transport

How will I know about incoming dogs or those that need help?

Most of our rescues need to be transported to or between major metro areas in Texas. We make several trips to meet up with other rescues — driving is throughout Texas and sometimes to Oklahoma or Arkansas to meet other transporters. Most volunteers drive, and we have air transport too. If you'd like to be considered for transportation, we'd love to hear from you.

Step 1
Fill out the volunteer application to be considered for transport. Once approved, we add you to our list to make coordination quicker and easier.
Step 2
Join the email group. Texting works for many, but some prefer email — submit yours below to join. Joining the email group doesn't guarantee approval for transport; you're still required to follow the volunteer process.

Volunteer, general

Can I volunteer in other ways?

Fundraising: Yes — support us by donating items for our raffles, or by participating in raffles and other competitions yourself.

Events: We sometimes host meet-ups where you can bring your Weim and spend time talking with people who stop by — it helps us promote the rescue, and if you're an adopter or foster, we really need you there.
